When teenage Sam (James Freedson-Jackson, Cop Car) and his 20-something brother Nick (Alex Pettyfer, I Am Number Four) take what appears to be a simple vacation through a remote American landscape, mysterious events soon give way to a dark and complex web of secrets. Great performances gradually reveal that appearance and supposition are not what they seem in this compelling mystery/thriller. Pettyfer infuses every scene with power and charisma, while Freedson-Jackson skillfully plays an emotionally isolated teen who confuses desire with tenderness. Their seemingly unbreakable bond makes it difficult to know where one ends and the other begins. Based on FFF award-winner Lauren Wolkstein (“Cigarette Candy,” FFF 2010) and Christopher Radcliff's acclaimed short of the same name (FFF 2011), THE STRANGE ONES is both riveting and perplexing. No spoon-feeding here—this provocative drama will have you buzzing long after the credits roll.
