Set in 1998, Teresa (played by the wonderful Victoria del Rosal) immigrates to the U.S. to escape a 22-year abusive marriage in Mexico. With one adult child still in Mexico and three in tow, Teresa struggles to make a new life for her family in Los Angeles. Battling her selfish relatives and manipulative ex, in addition to the steep challenges many immigrants face, she must learn to fight for herself and her kids in all aspects of her life. A humorous, raw, and touching family drama unlike any you’ve ever seen, Your Iron Lady has a powerfully simplistic style that showcases the captivating performances of a cast of predominantly Spanish-language soap opera stars. Based on a short story written by director Jorge Xolalpa’s mother, this film is not only a compelling tale of resilience and the power of family, but an expertly understated work of film art.
