Egghead & Twinkie

Exploding out of the gate with lively animation, soothing voiceover narration, and Air Traffic Controller’s delightful song “Hurry Hurry” blaring over the soundtrack, Egghead & Twinkie announces itself as not-your-average teen comedy. This vibrant film is an expansion of the award-winning short (FFF 2020) of the same name. After coming out to her parents, 17-year-old Twinkie takes off on a road trip to meet her online crush with the help of her best friend, Egghead, who also just happens to be in love with her. Bubbling over with a fast and zippy flow, the film is reminiscent of a queer version of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. This truly unique coming-of-age film is filled with awkward crushes that don’t pan out, road trips to meet your “true love,” an up-tempo collection of indie music to coast along with, and two wonderfully cast leads in Sabrina Jie-A-Fa and Louis Tomeo who make you yearn for your high school besties. It transports you back to that awkward yet euphoric feeling of being a teenager in love before the cynicism of the real world kicked in. You know, the “good old days.”
