In trouble for fighting at her high school, 17-year-old Daje Shelton goes in front of the no-nonsense St. Louis circuit court judge Jimmie Edwards. The judge sentences Daje to finish her high school education at the Innovative Concept Academy, a court-supervised alternative high school for delinquent teens that he runs. At the school, Daje’s initial promise as a student is soon sidelined when another troubled kid named Antonio becomes a student at the school. After getting pregnant, Daje is faced with a difficult decision that will forever change her life. As she struggles with the strict policies of the school, the nearby town of Ferguson is rocked by violence and rioting after the police shooting of Michael Brown. FOR AHKEEM delivers an intimate and sometimes gritty front-row seat into the life of a young African-American girl determined to make the best of her life despite the obstacles in front of her.
