The free samples are of soft serve ice cream (or something like ice cream). Jillian (Jess Weixler, Teeth), a hung over, acerbic law school drop-out who is holding out for the return of her boyfriend, has been roped into dispensing them from her friend’s food truck. She has not had her morning coffee, wishes she were dead, and manages to alienate nearly everyone in a day that will finally bring her to terms with herself and her life. Under Jay Gammill’s direction, Weixler’s deadpan performance brings Jillian to life with charm, wit, and sadness. This delightfully wry script with many side plots gives actor, director, and a fine supporting cast (including Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Ritter, James Duval, Halley Feiffer and Matt Walsh) much to work with, and work it they do. To top it off, look for a guest shot from the great Tippi Hedren (yep!), who like a visiting angel seems to bring everything back to normal.
