MARRIED LIFE
USA/CANADA, 2007, 90 MIN, Rated PG-13
DIRECTED BY IRA SACHS
The Florida Film Festival is proud to present a special advance screening of director Ira Sachs’ (Forty Shades of Blue) newest film, the 1940s-set Married Life. Chris Cooper stars as Harry, a man who falls in love with his mistress, the much younger Kay (Rachel McAdams), while being trapped in a hopeless marriage with Pat (Patricia Clarkson). His best friend Richard (Pierce Brosnan) also falls for Kay and tries to win her for himself. All this interweaves with Harry’s plot to kill his wife, so that she doesn’t have to suffer the humiliation of a divorce and having her husband leave her. But Pat’s got some secrets of her own. . . it’s an ironic sort of predicament that ends up being a perfect element for this comedic film that shrewdly blends dark humor, romantic deception, stylish melodrama, and a bit of suspense. Based on the mystery/pulp novel Five Roundabouts to Heaven by John Bingham, Married Life contemplates the real meaning of long-term relationships, the irresistible power of true love, and a whole lot of bad behavior.
