HAMBURGER AMERICA
USA, 2005, 54 MIN
DIRECTED BY GEORGE MOTZ
Butter burger? Police escorted grease? The Guberburger? George Motz’s mouth-watering and fascinating Hamburger America crisscrosses the country looking at eight of our most unique burger joints. Their common themes start with their decision to use fresh beef and to stay true to 40-plus years of hamburger tradition. The diversity in hamburger creation parallels the diversity of the American population. Pride and eccentricity abound from the owners, employees, and customers who know it’s all about the burger. Motz shows us, however, that the nation’s obsession is definitely more than just a burger: it celebrates the binding traditions and individuality that distinguish our ever-growing society.

THIS IS MY CHEESESTEAK
USA, 2007, 39 MIN
DIRECTED BY BENJAMIN DANIELS
Southeast Premiere
Food defines community. For Philadelphia, the community is all about the “Philly Cheesesteak.” Biting into this delicious, warm, gooey, cheesy, beefy tradition satisfies on many levels. For filmmaker Benjamin Daniels, it means he’s home. He speaks to the folks of several of Philadelphia’s well-known cheesesteak establishments to seek out what makes a cheesesteak authentic. Each interview shows how cheesesteak recipes progressed from previous generations. Still they do share some common ingredients: besides beef and cheese, the best restaurants have strong family traditions and employees who love their job and their customers. Of course, the main ingredient of a perfect Philly Cheesesteak is Philadelphia.
