JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER
2007, CANADA, 90 MIN
DIRECTED BY JON KNAUTZ
East Coast Premiere/2nd US Showing
Jack Brooks (Trevor Matthews) is having a hard time adapting to normal life after witnessing the brutal murder of his family when he was just a child. Now he spends his time working as a plumber and stuck in a dead-end relationship with his girlfriend, fighting to control his violent nature. It seemed impossible for things to get worse until he unknowingly awakens an ancient evil while trying to fix some rusty pipes for Professor Crowley (the infamous Robert Englund, “Freddy Kreuger” of Nightmare on Elm St. fame). Lured by this dark power, Crowley is possessed by a demonic black heart that forces his its way inside of him, causing the professor to slowly transform into a gruesome creature that turns students into blood-sucking, flesh-eating monsters. Now it’s up to Brooks, who must deal with his issues with the past so that he may confront this evil of the present before it’s too late. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer is a throwback to 1980s horror films, perfect midnight fare that’s filled with just as much gore as it is humor.
