Zachary Blasto (Matthew Alvin Brown) is in limbo somewhere between a staged musical heaven and a bad-breakup-and-hard-drinking hell. A talented songwriter and the lead guitarist/singer in a local band on the height of its success in Oklahoma, Blasto has been spending his days avoiding the truth about his ex, his band’s success, and a very sick father. With his judgment crashing rapidly in a downward spiral, Blasto couldn’t have picked a worse time to push everyone away. Blasto’s imagination tends to run wild, as this ticking time bomb musical journey of love and letting go has to defuse before it’s too late. Rainbow Around the Sun breaks all rules of traditional narrative musicals, combining the styles of Tommy, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Beatles musicals on a low budget. First-time actor Matthew Alvin Brown’s stellar performance and a conceptual album arrive to the screen in a most original and catchy rock opera.
