IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS
USA, 2007, 98 MIN
DIRECTED BY ALEX HOLDRIDGE
Southeast Premiere
Everything has gone wrong for Wilson since he moved to LA. Now it’s New Year’s Eve, and the would-be screenwriter is feeling the pressure--and the need--to find someone to kiss at midnight. When his roommate convinces him to post an ad on Craigslist for a New Year’s date (“Misanthrope seeks misanthrope...”), Wilson winds up meeting Vivian, a pushy, punchy, pretty young woman with her share of baggage, who Wilson may or may not make it all the way to midnight with. Both very smart and very funny, In Search of a Midnight Kiss is an authentic, clever, bittersweet look at the reality of dating in the digital era--but moreover, it’s a love note to Los Angeles. As Wilson and Vivian wander the city, we take it in through a loving, observant, black-and-white eye a lot like the one Woody Allen cast on New York in Manhattan: a new, romantic view of a dear, old friend.
