GOLIATH
USA, 2008, 80 MIN
DIRECTED BY DAVID ZELLNER
East Coast Premiere
"MISSING: Beloved Cat "GOLIATH" Very Sweet. Best Cat EVER, REWARD $20.00," reads the fliers posted all over Austin, Texas. A man (writer-director David Zellner) experiences a mid-30s crisis when suddenly he finds he's been demoted at his dead-end job, must sign divorce papers from his hostile ex, and apparently some sex offender (producer-editor Nathan Zellner) has moved into his neighborhood. To make matters even worse, his cat Goliath has gone missing, and he will do anything--when off the clock--to lure his lone friend and companion home and save him from the dangers of the outside world. When confronted with the thought "what worse could happen?" the man snaps. The Zellner Brothers are no strangers to the Florida Film Festival audience; their uproarious and bizarre shorts have been festival favorites since 2005. This year, direct from Sundance, the brothers bring their unique comic sensibilities to this dark but strangely realistic feature-length tale of a man and his missing cat.
