SON OF A BITCH!
USA, 2007, 80 MIN
DIRECTED BY JON EZRINE
World Premiere
"You're not such a bargain," Jon Ezrine's mother tells him, and neither is she. In proving this, Ezrine has made a film that is sometimes hilarious, sometimes tragic, sometimes both at the same time, and always fascinating. In this "psycho-documentary," Ezrine uses every aspect of his medium and every genre to explore and expose the complex nature of his family and how each member has become defined by the powerful, narcissistic personality of his mother. Home movies show her to be once beautiful, but experience proves that old adage about beauty being skin deep. Along the way we meet the alcoholic favored son, the disengaged divorced father, and the sister who made the mistake of marrying a German. Each has been defined and skewered by the bitch of the title, each exposed by the story Ezrine tells: a story of family secrets in which love is made to masquerade as hate and pleasures become defined by hurt.
