Girl Model

FLORIDA PREMIERE
Somewhere in Siberia, on a stage packed with bikini-clad young girls vying for the chance to be selected for Japanese modeling jobs, a voice announces over a loudspeaker, “Modeling requires grace, good communication skills, good manners. Who wouldn’t want their children to possess these qualities?” One of the children hoping to project these qualities is 13-year-old Nadya Vall. For Nadya, securing a modeling career promises to rescue her family from financial difficulty. The job of selecting the right girls falls on ex-model-turned-scout Ashley Arbaugh. Finding talent from Russia for modeling jobs in Japan and working for some very shady characters in both locations, Arbaugh carries her own damage from years in the industry, but the damage is tucked under a hardened shell. GIRL MODEL, directed by the filmmaking team that brought us Mardi Gras: Made in China (FFF 2005 Grand Jury Award for Best Doc Feature), Kamp Katrina (FFF 2007), and Intimidad (FFF 2008) takes the viewer deep into the underbelly of the international modeling industry by following the paths of both model and scout.
