Perseverance: Women In The Industry
Sponsored by Women In Film & Television - Florida
Kathryn Bigelow may have become the first woman ever to win a Best Director Oscar at last year’s Academy Awards for The Hurt Locker, but women continue to have a difficult time cracking the “Celluloid Ceiling.” A recent study indicated that of the top 250 domestic grossing films in 2010, women held a total of only 16% of the key behind-the-scenes positions, including 2% of the cinematographers, 7% of the directors, and 10% of the writers. Breaking into the biz is tough for anyone, but what are the unique challenges facing women today? A stellar panel of female visionaries will discuss their personal experiences and what it means to be a successful woman working in movies today. Panelists include Emmy-winning filmmaker Tricia Regan (Autism: The Musical), Erin Owens (Vice President, Arthouse Films), and Connie White (President, Balcony Booking and Co-founder, Balcony Releasing). Panel moderator is Sheri Kebbel, President of Kebbel Management, a talent management and production company in Beverly Hills.
