Florida on Film
Sunday, April 17, 10:30AM–12NOON at Enzian
The images of Florida on film are burned deeply into our national subconscious.
At the movies, Jerry Lewis was The Bell Boy, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon swam our rivers. Gentle Ben and even Jaws spent time in Florida. On television, Flipper delighted while Miami Vice changed both the medium and American culture—pastel colors, white jackets, and t shirts. The commercial promises made to America about our sunshine state over the years are plenty, and in this forum we’ll take a look at many. From movies to advertising to television and more, lots of fun clips are promised, and a good old Florida time will be had by all. Jim Clark, president of the Magazine Company (as well as former publisher of Winter Park Magazine, editor and publisher of Orlando Magazine, and an editor at Orlando Sentinel) will lead us on a trip through the maze of memories that film has given us through a variety of media. We’ll be joined by a panel of Florida advertising, television, film, and tourism professionals who remember it all too well.
Panelists include Bob Opsahl, Anchor, WFTV Channel 9 Eyewitness News; Suzy Spang, Vice President of Film & Entertainment Technology, Metro Orlando Entertainment Development Commission; Gary Sain, President and CEO, Visit Orlando; and Tim Fisher, Senior Vice President and Creative Director, Fry Hammond Barr.
This event is FREE and open to the public
