Who Took the Bomp? Le Tigre on Tour
DIRECTED BY KERTHY FIX
USA, 2010, 69 MIN
SOUTHEAST PREMIERE
If lesbian feminist electronic band sounds like a snooze fest, you need to get your ass on the dance floor and check out Le Tigre. In an all-too-brief career, Le Tigre triangulated a fascinating zone between the political agitpop of The Slits, the playful beats of Pizzicato Five, and the energetic visual hijinx of the Powerpuff Girls. Led by outspoken Riot Grrrl pioneer, Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill), they made delicious low-fi grooves that moved hips, hearts, and heads, proving (once again) that music can challenge as well as entertain. This concert film follows the infamous trio on their This Island tour across four continents and ten countries, celebrating their infectious performances while examining the sexism and homophobia of the contemporary pop machine. Directed by Kerthy Fix (Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields, FFF 2010), WHO TOOK THE BOMP? LE TIGRE ON TOUR is loaded with never-before-seen live performances, archival interviews, and revealing backstage footage. And don’t miss the scene where they pose for photos with members of Slipknot. That is a memory worth having!
