Call centers and printing are challenging enough but outsourcing gestation to India??? Almost every iteration of a heretofore unexpected, jaw-dropping, brave-new-world reality goes under the lens in this timely and provocative film. Brian and Lisa, a childless couple from Texas, fly to Mumbai, India, to harvest and then re-sow Lisa’s eggs in Aasia Khan, a poverty-stricken mother of three, eager to have money to put her children in school and proceeding without her husband’s approval. Complications ensue—and they are not the ones typically associated with pregnancy. Since the commercially brokered arrangement has no laws to govern it, who can hold the broker accountable? Who promised what to whom? Who is getting paid what? Whose name is on the birth certificate? Turns out, procreative tourism has some unexplained and unexpected risks. The first film to follow the entire hot-button issue of surrogacy from both the American and Indian perspectives, the superbly edited MADE IN INDIA explores a complicated clash of families in crisis, reproductive technology, and choice from a truly global perspective.

The look of love? This is the everlasting story of “what if” as hopeful romantics post ads on Craigslist for people they didn’t meet. And their heart-felt hunch is the stranger sharing glances might be their soulmate.
