How does Archie Williams (Gabriel Sunday), the 17 year-old, film-obsessed, mega geek become the most popular kid on campus and win the heart of the “most beautiful girl in school,” Sierra (Brooke Nevin)? For his video class’s final project, Archie announces his forthcoming suicide—on camera. From there he starts to record his every waking moment, while not hiding a single minute from his audience. Sex, drugs, violence, life, death, whatever comes to Archie’s mind—the viewer must take it all in. And as the shrinks, doctors, drug dealers, and counselors all descend on him, we are witness to the intense media overload and hypocrisy that bombard all teenagers. Director David Lee Miller’s ingenious use of live action, animation, and mixed media, combined with Sunday’s brilliant performance, take us for a wild ride. Miller leaves out nothing in this subversively comic and powerfully moving no-boundaries depiction of high school life. Boasting a great indie score, MY SUICIDE’s inspired supporting cast includes David Carradine, Mariel Hemingway, Joe Mantegna, Nora Dunn, and Tony Hale.
