Don’t Let Me Drown

Nestle® Cranberry Raisinets® Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature

In post-9/11 Brooklyn, it seems everyone was touched in some way by the World Trade Center tragedy. Dominican teenager Stefanie lost her sister in the attacks, and Mexican teen Lalo watches helplessly as his father becomes ill from his work clearing debris at Ground Zero. When Stefanie and Lalo meet at a birthday party, she gives him the cold shoulder. However, with persistence, Lalo gets Stefanie to warm up, and a secret romance develops. In this remarkable debut feature, Angeles combines the tough realism of the New York setting with the sorrow of its specific time to create what is, at its heart, a love story. Be prepared to see Ricardo Chavira in an alarmingly different role than the one he plays on television’s Desperate Housewives. And enjoy breakout performances from the young leads Gleendylis Inoa and E.J. Bonilla as Stefanie and Lalo. In a world flooded with despair, even the most hopeful teens need someone special to help keep them from drowning.
