Hundreds, if not thousands, of television shows are approved for production during pilot season. Some of these shows come out on top and survive for numerous seasons. Most others end up in the network graveyard, forgotten faster than they were created. Mike Klein (David Duchovny) writes a very personal and heartfelt pilot for a new drama involving a man dealing with his brother’s suicide; however, one of the executives decides (based on a suggestion by her 14-year-old daughter) that the show is too much of a downer. Without a doubt, director Jake Kasdan (Orange County) drew inspiration from personal experience working with such television shows as Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. Despite universal acclaim from critics and audiences alike, the networks decided to “take a different direction” and canned them altogether. With its wonderful supporting cast including Sigourney Weaver, Ioan Gruffud, Justine Bateman, and a sublime Judy Greer (as Mike’s manager), The TV Set is an insider’s bitingly comedic (and tragic) look at the frustrating behind-the-scenes process of television production.
DreamWorks animators Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson--contributors to such films as The Prince of Egypt, Shrek, and Shark Tale--make their directing debut with this sweet and funny tale of an uptight businessman whose perspective on life is changed through an encounter with a tiny bird.
Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy City of Baseball, a touching look at the history of one small town in Italy’s love of the great American pastime. Peperoni tells the tale of two youngsters in a small Calabrian village in the 1950s. After the screening, be sure to join fellow film lovers on the patio at Enzian for wine and cheese, generously provided by your friends at Olive Garden Italian Restaurants.
