WHEN PIGS FLY
USA, 2006, 62 MIN
DIRECTED BY ERIC BREITENBACH & PHYLLIS REDMAN
East Coast Premiere
At 28, Lory Yazurlo's whole existence was turned inside out as a result of a horrible accident in her 18-wheeler--leaving her quadriplegic and at the mercy of workers' comp and her former employers. This strong willed woman, now confined to a wheelchair and living on the 20 acres she acquired as part of her settlement, started rescuing pigs--small pigs, large pigs, pot-bellied pigs, mother pigs, baby pigs--and established "Pig Tales," a sanctuary for all things porcine. Trouble is the pigs now number in the hundreds, and Lory's resources and health are threatened, while her obsession only increases. She is barely scraping by, sustained largely by the heroic efforts of her long-suffering mom. Every day offers a new challenge--unflinchingly recorded by Eric Breitenbach (My Father's Son, FFF 2002) and Phyllis Redman--in this provocative study of self-determination, love, obsession, passion, and madness. Beautifully scored by Terri Binion.
