BONNIE AND CLYDE
USA, 1967, 111 MIN
DIRECTED BY ARTHUR PENN
"We rob banks!" was their motto, and that's exactly what the Barrow Gang set out to do. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway star as the most infamous bank-robbing couple in history--Bonnie and Clyde. Director Arthur Penn's classic, trend-setting film follows the gang during the Great Depression from their happy beginnings, through their journey across America's heartland, to their shocking and bloody end. Certainly one of the most violent films of its time, critics and audiences alike applauded its excellent performances, stunning photography and brilliant screenplay, which deftly blended comedy, melodrama, and social commentary. The wonderful cast included not only Beatty and Dunaway, but Gene Hackman, Michael J. Pollard, Gene Wilder (in his film debut), and Estelle Parsons, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards in all, the Florida Film Festival is proud to present this 40th Anniversary screening of one of the most controversial and groundbreaking films of the 1960s.
