Set in the late 1950s, the story focuses on two Italian-immigrant brothers, Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and Secondo (Stanley Tucci), who nearly go broke opening a restaurant, the Paradise, in New Jersey. Food serves as the backbone of this labor of love, with near religious reverence given to its depiction, making viewers wish they were watching the film from their favorite Italian restaurant. Co-directed by Tucci and Campbell Scott, the seamless cinematography perfectly captures the determined world of the immigrant brothers as they struggle to make their restaurant a success while attempting to stay true to their ideals and each other. Exceptional performances by Tucci and Shalhoub are matched at every step by a strong supporting cast that includes Sir Ian Holm, Minnie Driver, and Isabella Rossellini.
