THE GLENMOORE JOB
AUSTRALIA, 2005, 53 MIN
DIRECTED BY GREG WILLIAMS
East Coast Premiere
After five years on the inside, Warren (Simon Lyndon) steps out of prison and into a new self-help therapy group called "Skills for Life." No doubt he'd rather take off and leave his past behind him, but this therapy group offers a nontraditional approach: tossing away typical rehab practices, the group plays board games instead. Warren knows this accomplishes nothing for his wellbeing, but plays along anyway to keep the cops off his back so he can put all of his focus into doing a "job" for one of his mates still in prison. The details of the job aren't quite clear at first but writer-director Greg Williams reveals them at an intriguing pace. Full of oddball Aussie characters, brilliant editing, and crisp photography, The Glenmoore Job has much more to offer than typical crime-drama fare.

MARILENA DE LA P7
ROMANIA, 2006, 45 MIN
DIRECTED BY CRISTIAN NEMESCU
In Romanian with English subtitles
Southeast Premiere
The innocent emotions of youth aren't easily tamed. Especially for Andrei, a 13 year-old boy who has fallen in love with a prostitute named Marilena from the P7 red-light district. Trying everything in his power to get her to notice him, he decides to steal a trolleybus to prove his intent. Unfortunately for Andrei, something else about Marilena may prevent her from taking notice. Set in a Bucharest ghetto, Marilena de la P7 is an unforgettable film about teenage emotion and a heartbreaking look at innocence among the indigent. Gritty and bleak, this cinematic gem has the power of films twice its length.
