UNSETTLED
USA/ISRAEL, 2006, 80 MIN
DIRECTED BY ADAM HOOTNICK
In English and Hebrew w/ English subtitles

A house is not necessarily a home in the Gaza strip. Not in 2005. Not for Lior, a young, lion-haired lifeguard; Neta, a fiery activist; or for thousands of others Israeli settlers. They thought their place in the Promised Land was permanent, but they are now obstacles in the path to peace in the Middle East. This 2007 Slamdance Grand Jury Prize- winning film puts you in the middle of the unsettling story of Israeli citizens pitted against one another. Tension fills the days leading to forced evictions, the violent arguments as neighbors disagree, and the inevitable confrontations with young soldiers honor-bound to separate their brethren from their homes. On the streets, on front porches, and in kitchens, the human consequences of ancient enmities and contemporary policy show the real story behind the diplomatic negotiations and newspaper headlines. And, in the end, the bulldozers level the land to make way for Palestinian residents. Is this the path to peace in the Middle East?

At an age when most children start first grade, Isaac Khor Bher walked 1000 miles barefoot. Two short years ago, he became the first "Lost Boy of Sudan" to be reunited with his mother. His heartfelt story is the story of child refugees worldwide.
