John "Rugged" Rudgate (Aaron Stanford, Tadpole) is a small-time wannabe criminal who makes a living forging rebate coupons and selling speakers from the back of his van. Struggling to escape the dreariness of his northern New Hampshire hometown, Rugged's life is about to take a radical turn when he bumps into his high school pal, the dim-witted Jeff Lagrand (Paul Schneider, All The Real Girls), who runs a storage facility with his sister (Zooey Deschanel, The Good Girl). When the blustery hood pretends to be the mastermind of a vast criminal enterprise and take credit for the town's only unsolved murder, he sets into motion a hilarious chain of events involving the cuckholded local cop (Michael Rapaport, True Romance), the hardware store owner (Judah Friedlander, American Splendor), and a date with history. Seinfeld vets Andy Robin and Gregg Kavet have created a quirky and freewheeling rural comedy filled with stellar performances from a wonderful cast--it's easy to see how this very funny film won Jury Awards at both the SXSW and Seattle Film Festivals.
