ANALOG DAYS
USA, 2006, 80 MINS
DIRECTED BY MIKE OTT
East Coast Premiere

In the small town of Newhall, California, 30 miles north of Los Angeles, an art student in the local community college hears "everything has been done before." However, a group of twenty-something hopefuls want a better future than suburban house parties, working at the Video Depot, or making indie rock mix tapes. From their point of view, plenty in Newhall has yet to be done. In his directorial/screenwriting debut, Mike Ott's vision of college student angst hits home, replete with powerful sincerity and a unique atmosphere recognizable to anyone who has emerged from college into a terrifying "real world." The director's good friend, indie rock guitarist Derek Fudesco (Pretty Girls Make Graves), sets the subtle mood of the film with a score that's perfection, while the film's huge indie rock mix of hipsters like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse, and Interpol skillfully complements its message of independence. Ott's honest take on music, politics, art, and even romance, summons immediate recognition for anyone who's gone through the joys and pain of their early twenties.
