Tim McCann (Revolution #9, FFF 2002) twists the psychological thriller genre in this quietly disturbing and haunting story of brotherly love. If you were abused by your father as a child, how would you prevent your younger brother from becoming his next victim? Twenty-one-year-old Michael (Aaron Stanford, Tadpole) kidnaps his six-year-old brother, and they run from the past to create a future. The complexities facing this overburdened young man gradually unfold in suspenseful and heart-wrenching fashion. Fear of discovery forces Michael to remain aloof, and balancing the responsibilities of a convenience store job and the care and protection of his brother, left in a cheap motel, are more than enough to bear. But getting closer to his likeable boss (Peter Gerrity, Syriana), and a budding relationship with a take-no-prisoners co-worker Carly (Robin Tunney, Cherish) complicate his life further, along with memories he can’t shake. Flashbacks to his past and his contacts with a therapist ultimately reveal a nightmarish existence, and a first-rate cast makes this one unforgettable.
