BUS STOP
USA, 1956, 105 MIN
DIRECTED BY JOSHUA LOGAN
Special 50th anniversary screening! Ready to shed her “shallow blonde” image by 1955, Marilyn Monroe took a year long hiatus from Hollywood and moved to New York to study under Lee Strasberg at his Actor’s Studio. With a newfound confidence in her craft, Marilyn formed her own production company and joined with 20th Century Fox to make BUS STOP. The William Inge play, adapted by George Axelrod, features the story of a naïve cowboy (Don Murray) who ventures off the ranch to find, meet, and marry the girl of his dreams. Once he sets eyes on saloon singer Cherie (Monroe) delivering her rendition of “That Old Black Magic,” his search ends and the pursuit begins. Director Joshua Logan creates a dynamic film full of humor, passion, and a radiant Marilyn. The film also marked the cinematic debut of Murray and Hope Lange, who married shortly after the completion of the film. The Florida Film Festival is proud to provide a fully-restored, colorful glimpse at America’s most recognizable cinematic icon at the height of her tragically poignant career.
