THE WAY BACK HOME
USA, 2005, 93 MIN
DIRECTED BY REZA BADIYI
EAST COAST PREMIERE/2ND US SHOWING
Spencer Krane checks his watch and, seeing that it’s five o’clock in Central Florida, knows it’s time to put his collar up against an incoming rain storm. From this opening moment, THE WAY BACK HOME is a Central Florida film through and through. Five-time Tony award winner Julie Harris and Kennedy Center Honoree Ruby Dee join a Valencia Community College film crew to make this story of a young lawyer (Winter Park-born actor/writer Michael H. King) who returns to Sanford after a personal tragedy to find the comfort and strength of home in his grandmother (Harris) and friends LV (Deezer D of ER) and Sarah (Tessie Santiago). The lush splendor of Florida’s landscape is so graciously showcased in this film that local viewers will feel a great pride of place and visitors will feel the natural serenity of the home outside their door.
