DIRECTED BY SEBASTIAN CORDERO

Miami-based star tabloid reporter Manolo (John Leguizamo) travels to Ecuador to cover the story of the “Monster of Babahoyo,” a serial child murderer on the loose. While investigating, he inadvertently saves scruffy Bible salesman Vinicio (Damian Alcazar) from the lynch mob that wants to punish him for running over a child. But Vinicio, imprisoned for manslaughter, seems to know a great deal about the Monster’s crimes. Directed by Sebastian Cordero, this taut thriller soberly observes the excesses of the media and the connections between ambition and morality. Produced by Alfonso Cuaron and Jorge Vergara (Y Tu Mama Tambien) and rounded out by a superb supporting cast that includes Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2) and Leonor Watling (Talk to Her), Ecuador’s 2004 entry for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar asks: How much are we willing to sacrifice for personal gain? When have we gone too far?
