DIRECTED BY DAVIDE FERRARIO
Director/writer Davide Ferrario delivers a love letter to cinema in an eccentric, enchanting romantic comedy for all cinephiles. Sad-eyed, timid Martino (Giorgio Pasotti), an avid film lover and night watchman, guards Turin’s Museum of Cinema. Resembling Buster Keaton, he lives through movies until spunky Amanda (Francesca Inaudi) from a nearby fast-food restaurant seeks refuge after she douses her demanding boss with hot oil. A surprising connection develops between them, through the movies and because of the magical place, the cavernous labyrinth of the historic Mole Antonelliana that houses the museum. Using high-definition digital photography, Ferrario lavishly explores its architecture in a daring visual experiment, just as Martino makes his short portraits of the city by splicing found images and his own shots. With the appearance of Amanda’s boyfriend, a goodhearted professional car thief known as the Angel of Falchera (Fabio Troiano), the story pays tribute to Truffaut’s Jules and Jim and inventively weaves a contemporary triangle with the magical allure of powerful film history.
