Sam and Steve fell in love as college students. Although committed to each other, both men felt that bringing a woman into their relationship would make it ideal, and Sam’s coworker Samantha proved the perfect fit. The trio are successful in the business they own together, their families are supportive, and Samantha gets pregnant, as they had hoped. But the baby’s arrival triggers some dramatic changes in the idyllic world they have created. Samantha is not happy as a stay-at-home mom, the boys struggle to cope with their expanding business, and all three enter therapy. Shot over eight years, THREE OF HEARTS starts off light and humorous but engages much more complex emotions as these adults continue on their remarkable journey of self-discovery. Without judging them, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Susan Kaplan (Small Wonders) delves deep into the psyches of three individuals who are expanding the boundaries of what it means to be a family.
