directed by Bill Plympton
East Coast Premiere
Friday, March 12
Midnight, at Enzian
Saturday, March 13
9:30 PM at Regal

Hair High

Festival favorite Bill Plympton (The Tune, Mutant Aliens) returns with his latest and greatest work yet, a gothic '50s high-school comedy about a love triangle gone terribly bad. Cherri and Rod are the high-school king and queen, and they justifiably rule their domain. Spud, the new kid in town, accidentally offends the couple and is forced to become Cherri's slave – and, of course, the two soon fall in love. Cherri and Spud secretly decide to go to the prom together, and on prom night a rejected Rod forces their car off the road and into the lake. Sharing one last kiss as they go to their watery grave, the two lovers lie in a timeless embrace. . . until the following year’s prom--and a vengeful homecoming indeed! Rude, outrageous, yet strangely touching, Hair High features a monumental soundtrack of 50s obscurities and an all-star host of voice talents, including Dermot Mulroney, Beverly D’Angelo, Sarah Silverman, Martha Plimpton, and David and Keith Carradine. Revenge has never been so sweet. . .

THE HAZING
USA, 2003, 87 min
directed by Rolfe Kanefsky
World Premiere
Saturday, March 6
Midnight, at Regal
Sunday, March 14
9:30 PM, at Regal

The Hazing

In the tradition of Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama and The Evil Dead, The Hazing follows a group of college students involved in a hazing that goes terribly, terribly wrong. An eclectic group of pledges--wisecracking Roy, shy Tim, tough Marsha, hard-ass Doug, and sexpot Delia--are given their "hazing" assignment: an elaborate scavenger hunt and a night at "Hack House," a deserted mansion once the scene of a grisly murder. On the scavenger list is The Savior Of Souls, an ancient, mystic book said to open portals to other dimensions--which unfortunately lies in the possession of the deranged Professor Kapps, who has his own ideas for both the book AND the pledges. Starring fan favorite Brad Dourif (Lord of the Rings) and E!’s Brooke Burke, and rife with some of the most outrageously gruesome effects known to man, The Hazing is a deliriously wild ride of titillation and terror that’ll leave you stiff! Back to top.

ZOMBI 2
Italy, 1979, 91 min
directed by Lucio Fulci
English Language
Restored 25th Anniversary Edition - Southeast Premiere
Friday, March 12
Midnight, at Regal
Saturday, March 13
10:00 PM, at Regal

Zombi 2

In 1979, George Romero’s classic Dawn of the Dead galvanized the Italian film industry under its release title Zombi. Veteran shockmeister Lucio Fulci was the first to capitalize on this bombshell, crafting his even more outrageous Zombi 2 (US release title: Zombie) within months, and cementing a genre that continues to this day. Transposing Romero’s zombie menace to the tropical jungle setting of Italy’s "Cannibal Atrocity" motif, Fulci’s gory pastiche recalls such 50s B-movie shockers as Voodoo Island and Zombies of Mora Tau, while savaging the viewer with some of the ghastliest, grisliest gut-munching ever captured on film. And who could forget cinema’s first (and only) onscreen confrontation between a zombie and a shark? Heavily censored, even banned since its initial release, Zombi 2 is presented for the first time ever in its restored, complete and uncut glory, struck from the original negative. Please note that, due to nudity and extremely gruesome violence, POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 WILL BE ADMITTED. Back to top.

MIDNIGHT MUSIC VIDEO SHOWCASE

After the enormous success of last year’s music video program, the Florida Film Festival is proud to welcome back mvwire.com to present a new evening of the best and boldest new music videos presented in Dolby Digital Stereo sound.

The music video form is considered to be on the cutting edge of computer animation, storytelling and innovations in cinematography. With production values at a much higher level per minute than a feature film, music videos deserve to be showcased on a big screen like their more celebrated cousins. Many of the video clips in this program have been in regular rotation on television, but tonight’s program offers a glimpse at rarely--or never seen--videos in a venue that shows them at their very best. You’ll never want to watch videos on your little TV or monitor again.

Join us for an evening filled with larger-than-life visual excitement that will include an interview with special guest music video director Brett Simon (Polar Bear, Thrice, Fur Patrol).

OutKast "Hey Ya!"

Intermission

Tribute to music video director, Brett Simon

Polar Bear "Belly"
Directed by Brett Simon, 1:34
Short and to the point, this simple one-shot of the band's performance is a nice antidote to the flashy and over-stuffed videos that are polluting our cable boxes.

Thrice "Stare At The Sun"
Directed by Brett Simon, 3:28
Photocopied images from journal entries, maps, and scientific texts are cut and collaged to form lyrics that illustrate a quest from darkness to light and back again.

Incubus "Megalomaniac"
Directed by Floria Sigismondi, 4:26
Collaged with images of dictators, protesters and anesthetized masses with an insatiable need for oil, Incubus comments on the toxic effect of American consumerism and the greed of the Bush administration.

The Crystal Method "Born Too Slow"
Directed by Gore Verbinski 3:54
Director Verbinski pairs his take on 19th-century photographer Edward Muybridge’s motion studies with The Crystal Method's pulsing industrial rhythms to illustrate a lone man’s journey through a cityscape.

Shynola returns to top form with a beautifully constructed ode to punk rock, matching perfect images to one of the year’s biggest alternative singles.

Fischerspooner "Emerge"

Directed by Joseph Kahn, 4:00
Capturing Busta Rhymes’ trademark irreverence and humor, “Light Your Ass On Fire” displays bits of Tex Avery-influenced madness as well as outrageous toilet humor.
