Machinima: Festival Film Created
Live On Stage
Featuring On the Campaign Trail
with Lenny & Larry Lumberjack

Thursday, March 11, 4:45 PM, at Enzian

The ILL Clan, a New York based animation studio, returns to the Florida Film Festival to illustrate the process of “Machinima” with their ground-breaking interactive performance using audience participation to create an entirely new film.

Along with works from other artists of the Academy Of Machinima Arts and Sciences, the presentation features the ILL Clan's improv/animation team performing a live 3D animated show, while presenting their newest offering, On the Campaign Trail with Lenny & Larry Lumberjack.

On the Campaign Trail with Lenny & Larry Lumberjack

As part of the new wave of embedded journalism, join "Six Minutes" anchor Mike Whitely as he tracks the progress of two lame brained lumberjacks in their bid for the White House. On this exciting, hard-hitting show, it's all about the issues: Mike isn't afraid to ask the tough questions, and Lenny and Larry aren't afraid to admit they're tough! In this special live "Florida Town Hall" edition of "Six Minutes," Lenny and Larry will present their case directly to the people of the Florida Film Festival, and Mike will invite the audience to ask questions of the candidates and air their grievances.

The ILL Clan helped to pioneer Machinima with their Award winning short, Hardly Workin' and their live performance "Common Sense Cooking" was documented at NextArt 2003 by the Discovery Channel. The name “Machinima,” is derived from the words Machine and Cinema.

A Next Art Bonus:

If you crave an additional dose of Lenny & Larry Lumberjack (and who doesn’t?), don’t miss the 2004 Florida Film Festival Awards Gala. The lads in plaid have consented to co-host the big event. For more information about the Gala, click here.

Toy Symphony

Friday, March 12, 3:30 PM, at Enzian

What typically happens when a curious and energetic child encounters classical music? Let Toy Symphony change your answer. Don’t miss Central Florida’s first exposure to this powerful and innovative phenomenon and its impact on our own children!

With Toy Symphony, Tod Machover and his team at the MIT Media Lab strive to bridge the gap between professional musicians and children, as well as between audience and performers. By combining children, virtuosic performers, composers, and symphony orchestras around the world, Toy Symphony radically alters how children are introduced to music, serving to redefine the relationship between professional musicians and young people.

Through the use of innovative technologies to create musical instruments and compositional tools designed for an individual of any skill level, as well as weeklong workshops culminating in an integrated performance with children and professional musicians, Toy Symphony is designed as an utterly inclusive experience, a chance for all involved to engage in music making that bridges past and present, using futuristic technology, innovative pedagogy, and inspiring music to step firmly into the 21st century.

Please join Tod, Mary Farbood, the children from the Rollins College Community School of Music, their mentors from the UCF Music Department, and a string quintet from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra to experience the culmination of our community’s encounter with Toy Symphony—a truly unforgettable performance.
