squeezebox.jpgConsider New York City in the mid-1990s. Mayor Rudy Gulliani kicked off his first term with the manifesto, "Blame the Squeegee Guys." Yuppies plotted the financial mess that engulfs us today. Times Square porn palaces were sold to Disney. But all was not lost!  In a downtown dive known as Don Hill's, drag queens discovered guitars and rock and roll was saved! Guided by one rule--NO LIP SYNCING--a homo-centric musical shindig dubbed Squeezebox! soared across the galaxy of NYC nightlife for the next seven years. Often hilarious, frequently debauched, Squeezebox! was a boozy all-accepting zoo that spawned everything from the messy glam rock of the Toilet Boys to the off-Broadway sensation Hedwig and the Angry Inch.  This raw, rollicking doc--produced by one of the club's original go-go dancers--spotlights the final Squeezebox! blow-out in 2001, mixing ass-kicking live performances with incredible archive material, interviews, gay-historical context, and cameos from Debbie Harry, John Waters, and others. With an energy level just north of off-the-chart, SQUEEZEBOX! captures the chaotic, sweaty, unapologetically pansexual frenzy of a party that was just too good to last.
