There are three big reasons why nothing is going to be easy when Kim returns to her hometown of Helena, Montana, for her 20th high school reunion. First, Kim hasn't been home since the death of her father, and his cherished spirit looms large in Kim's Big Sky memories. Second, Kim hopes to re-establish a relationship with her adopted brother, Marc. Marc suffered a brain injury in a car accident a decade earlier and has since struggled with seizures, medications, and mood swings as result of his injury. And lastly, Kim is attending a reunion with classmates who remember her as Paul, the co-captain of the football team. As Kim and Marc struggle with their new relationship as brother and sister, Marc learns that his birth parent was the daughter of Hollywood royalty. Through it all, Kim must make peace with her former self. A sensation at this year's Telluride Film Festival, Prodigal Sons is a galvanizing, wholly remarkable combination of intimate family drama, gender politics, mental illness, and cultural history.
